I was looking for a nice place to have a beer and a hearty meal. Got there at a slow time on Saturday. In a world where everything is so impersonal, it was nice to have my waitress ask how my life was French onion soup is. How is your fish today. Would you like another Troegs? It felt like she was MY waitress. It was really relaxing and enjoyable. Prices are on par with other "nice" restaurants and well worth the warm service you just don't get any more.
Been there a few times. Usually pretty good. A bit overpriced. Last time the entre was cold. Small portions, gourmet style. Yet there are peanuts all over the floor. Like the peanuts. Dinner? Not so much.
Reservations are usually needed on weekends during the dinner hours.
Probably one of the last places you can eat peanuts for free and throw the shells on the floor. Food goes from $ burgers to $$$ high end food.
During certian events (Blues fest, Jazz fest, St. Pat day, etc.) make reservations early. Plan to have a good time.
It's okay . . . wife had a crab cake that was fried and mostly filler. I had a burger and it was very good and tasted fresh. DO NOT order a manhattan. We get these everywhere we go and these were good but WAY OVERPRICED at $14 EACH. The area rate is about $9 - $10. I have paid less at a martini bar at vacation areas. I recommend getting a burger and beer. I've eaten here several times over the years. Nothing outstanding in my opinion, but you do get to throw your peanut shells on the floor.
Great place to be during the Berks Jazz Fest. I never met Jimmie. I heard he's nuts. Nuts about peanuts that is. Great place to meet friends after work.
